MILESTONES OF UNDERSTANDING

Some songs are loved for their music, some for a little image that lodges in the mind and won’t go away. Some are ballads about causes we feel a connection with. And some take us on wonderful journeys of discovery. Then there are those that simply tell stories. My songs are mostly story songs – plus a mixture of those inspired by my heroes.

These would include Cole Porter, Oscar Hammerstein, Lennon & McCartney, Ray Davies, Leonard Cohen, Tom Lehrer, James Simmons, Don McClean and Randy Newman among others. It would be nice to think some of their magic might rub off – the best ideas get stolen after all! But we each tell our stories differently. So, let me lower your expectations and simply hope that you enjoy what you hear.

Here are those of mine that have connected with an audience. They are all available to record. If you are a singer looking for something original, or if you make programmes, films or musicals – I hope you find a song that suits your style and fits your moment. In late 2013 I submitted a number of them to SoundOut.com for review by up to 250 reviewers worldwide – who said that many seemed like songs they would hear in the theatre. So, if you are a publisher looking for such songs, please listen in too.

I have no pretensions to being a recording star so please try not to be put off by hearing me sing them or by the very basic arrangements they currently have. If you are just satisfying your curiosity – thank you very much for coming. I hope you enjoy your visit and tell your friends.
